Ten Brinke coaches students during The International Building Challenge 2022

Over 60 students from the Netherlands and Belgium will be taking part in The International Building Challenge. Saxion – the organiser of this event – has developed this exchange programme to encourage international cooperation with foreign universities. The programme will give students an opportunity to meet each other, became acquainted with different perspectives and learn from each other through intensive cooperation.

This year’s programme will include a case developed by Ten Brinke for 20 students from Saxion Enschede (NL) the ‘Germany case’. The order associated with this case comprises the redevelopment of a plot of land with heritage-listed buildings on Kamenerstraße in Hamm (DE). Students participating in this project will be divided into subgroups, in which they will be working on market research, the pricing of land, rental, sales and construction costs and the redevelopment of the plans by means of a Revit visualisation.

The kick-off will take place at Ten Brinke in Hengelo (NL) on Monday 25 April. This will be followed by a visit to the construction site to allow the students to gain a good impression of the scope of the project in Hamm (DE). Colleagues from Ten Brinke Münster (DE) will be joining them for a presentation and a tour of the old factory site, with its many heritage-listed factory buildings.

The second and final week of the project will start at Ten Brinke in Almelo (NL) on Monday 9 May. During this week, the students will focus on working out the case with the aim of compiling a fantastic final presentation for the Saxion lecturers and the project supervisors of Ten Brinke. A presentation and tour of the Ringers Factory in Alkmaar (NL) will also be on the programme to give the students an impression of a transformation project in progress. Construction is in full swing there! The former chocolate factory and the grounds surrounding it are being transformed into a beautiful metropolitan residential environment. This International Building Challenge gives students a taste of the international atmosphere at Ten Brinke and the intensive cooperation between project development and construction.
